The 'light leak' effect - common in older SLRs with degraded door seals - contributed horizontal pink-to-orange flare bands that became signature digital additions. The pastel daydream grade lifts blacks (shadows never reach true black), pulls down highlights to prevent complete blowout while retaining a blown quality, and desaturates overall while protecting warmth in skin tones and pinks. Haze is often added as a separate layer. In-camera techniques include shooting through diffusion (a smeared UV filter, a stretch of stockings over the lens, or a Tiffen Glimmer Glass filter) and deliberately exposing to the right. Photographers like Jose Villa (floral, garden-light wedding editorial) and Jasmine Star popularized it for the wedding market. It has become so associated with a particular brand of soft femininity that it simultaneously represents aspiration and, for some audiences, cliche.
